Bemm River Competition:

Thirteen members attended this competition, again staying at Cozy Nook Flats where we were looked after  by our hosts Chris and Rob.
Thursday started badly for Doug who's outboard only took him 20 meters from the jetty before 'giving up the ghost', which explains why we passed him at Cabbage Tree heading west whilst we were heading east.
Friday afternoon was a glorious day with just the right ripple across the water. Just outside the mouth of the river was the hot spot and most of us caught fish there during the afternoon. The river it self was disappointing both for lures and bait although we may not have gone far enough up stream in our case. A few fish were also caught in the channel to the entrance.
Friday night dinner was taken at the pub and very pleasant meal had by all.
Saturday again was a pleasant day and many fish were caught again at the river mouth, Bob's Bay and the channel. However the big fish were hard to come by with only two fish over 1 kg being caught for the entire competition.
Saturday night was our club dinner night this time cooked by Kevin with help from Michelle and Deidre and plenty of advise from the remaining rabble. Much to everyone's surprise he produced Silver-side which was a welcome change from steak and burgers. The meal was excellent and also enabled much debate as to the best way to make mustard sauce, which of course is why you have silver-side in the first place.
Sunday morning was a hard day 'fishing wise' with a few glum faces at weigh-in although Don and Jack manage to find a nice lot of fish half an hour before weigh-in bringing in six.
Winner with the biggest bream was Jack Murray 1329 gm and the other species Barry Bills with a flathead of 53 cms whilst Owen Bennet won the secret weight.

November General meeting:

Helen McCubbin is guest speaker and will talk about and show pictures of her fishing trip to the eastern Christmas Is.

Dinner at Bairnsdale Bowls Club:

The normal General meeting in October was replaced with a social evening at the above club. 34 people attended and enjoyed a great meal, meeting of old faces and general camaraderie. it is hoped to repeat these evenings especially during the winter months.

  Membership:

The committee decided to make December a 'free membership month'. If you join during the month of December there will be no joining fee (normally $50) nor pro-rata annual fee (normally $25), meaning your next fee would be the annual fee ($50) due in July 2016 if you wished to continue your membership. A great opportunity to join this proud club and participate in our activities.

Clean-up Day:

The 11th October was the day club member took part in a clean up of fishing sites around our little bit of Gippsland Lakes and rivers. Teams visited the Kalimna rock wall walk, around the club rooms, Nungurner, and the banks of the Mitchell and Tambo Rivers, collecting the equivalent of four trailer loads of rubbish. The worst area was along the Rough Rd., beside the eastern side of the Tambo River.
The sad part of this day was that club members had to pick up all this rubbish left behind by our fellow fisher persons.

Bemm River Competition:

Our next club event is a trip to Bemm River on the 23rd October staying at Cozy Nook Flats for the weekend. This is one of our best club trips and is usually well attended. Friday night's dinner is at the local pub whilst the Club provides a meal on the Saturday night.
