Mallacoota– We won the shield back !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It rained on and off for the three days but despite this 15 members had a very ‘enjoyable’ time – well if you leave the weather aside it really was back to the good old times from a few years ago. Some arrived on Thursday and the rest on Friday Unfortunately we were not all side by side down on the flat near the wharf, but the Bills and the Myers were only a camp site or two away from the rest– and then there was Doug, well he was ‘miles’ away on a powered site. Yours truly headed for his secret site where I bagged out last year – one fish only- then it was off to Don Henry’s ‘secret’ site at the other end of the top lake (guaranteed to bag out he said)—no fish! Barry arrived with his home made boat loader but we had to wait until the next day to see it in action – not a single rope or electric wire going anywhere. Two long pieces of wood attached to the side of the roof rack then around to the other side and give the boat a big shove and if you were quick enough you could catch it sliding down the pieces of wood just before it hit the ground. Getting it back up on to the roof required a little muscle power to get it there. I think Barry is on to a good thing as we will all be doing this when we run out of electricity or lengths of rope. As we sat around as a group having a drink or two George (the dog) sat up on her own mini camp chair whilst Lucy and Freckles Widdowson annoyed their mother by disappearing all the time. Back to the fishing – Friday saw some lovely fish being caught by all fisher persons the biggest by Barry Bills at 1020 gms but unfortunately he peaked too early as it was before the start of the competition– however it was 43 cms long which makes it the longest bream caught this year by a member.. Linda and Kevin had a good day with 12 fish, the bigger ones being caught by Linda, while the rest of us just did ‘well’. Saturday was as good as Friday with some lovely fish -900gms plus – being caught. Kevin bagged out on flathead as he drifted across the flats with lures.( see enclosed story to see what else he caught ) The place to fish for bream with local prawns was on the north eastern end of Goodwin Sands– it was here that we won back the shield. Our Saturday night club meal consisted of one spit roast and one Webber cooked roast lamb cooked by Barry and Kevin along with peas beans and potatoes cooked by Sandra. Then much to the surprise of those not in the know, Ruth and Sandra produced a very large trifle and a pavlova – Owen could not believe his eyes and had to keep coming back for more just to make sure he wasn’t dreaming. Sunday resulted in a few more fish being caught but I was the only one upgrading my catch (997 gms). James Myer turned up and out fished us all with his over 1 kg bream but unfortunately was not a member. The best part of the weekend was the weigh –in and presentation of the shield. Members of the Mallacoota Angling Club turned up in large numbers as they had 16 fishers (we had 9 ) and the average of their best nine was 633 gms where as ours was 826 gms. Interestingly in the previous month there had been two major bream competitions at Mallacoota and 1400 fish were caught and released. Owen’s unbelievable weekend continued as Ruth produced another pavlova for Sunday lunch then I found the left over trifle in the fridge for the Sunday evening meal. No mention here of the three naughty girls who actually had this pav for their breakfast. Well…..it did need to be test tasted!

Treasurer’s report:
a financial report for the 2016 year was presented by Alby McDonald

Edgley and Seconded by Geoff Hudson that the report be accepted. Carried
Secretary Report: the secretary gave a brief report on the
activities and achievements of the club during 2016
General Business: Junior Members—following much discussion a
motion was put by Barry Bills and seconded by Neil Barrett that “the definition
of a Junior member be a member under 16 years of age, as per our constitution,
that no annual fee is required and members between the ages of 16 and 18 years
be considered senior members but the Annual fee be only $20. All members below
the age of 18 years must have a parent or an appointed Guardian present if they
wish to attend any club fishing trips or event. No club keys to be given to any
member under the age of 18 years”.

The chair was vacated by Kevin Minter and Barry Bills
offered to conduct the elections.
Barry paid tribute to the resigning Executive.

GLFC Family Day BBQ 11/1/2016
What a wonderful roll up we had for our January Social night. Yummy salads came through the door and Geof and Rose came prepared with fantastic whiting for all, already "pankoed " to be deep fried to a crispy golden brown. Thanks so much for all their work catching and preparing it. Some of us even got to take home a few to cook for our lunch the next day! Delicious desserts topped off the evening. As usual everyone pitched in getting tables set up, washing and cleaning up done having as much fun with each other whether we were in the kitchen or sitting around talking and enjoying the view.
Things really heated up when Neil came along prepared to teach us a rollicking new card game for any number of players. Now how could an intelligent lady end up being "Piggy" when she was trying so hard? Becky was heard saying ..... "don't look at your cards, just look at people's noses", Rose learned what was left and right, May quickly learned the rules and only got to 'pig' and I suspect the Widdowson's were in cohoots with each other. If the amount of noise and hilarity were any guide as to how much fun we were having, well I think it was the perfect "10".
